This is an exciting opportunity to join Alert’s largest country programme – the Democratic Republic of Congo team - as the Senior Advocacy Advisor of our new Dutch funded Improving security, social cohesion and human rights in conflict mineral rich regions of Eastern DRC project. This is a senior management position within Alert’s DRC programme and reports directly to the Project Manager or Chief of Party (CoP), and is responsible for the technical direction and coordination of all advocacy efforts within the project. This 4-year project aims to strengthen regional stability in the Great Lakes by:
a) reducing the levels of violent conflict and improving security in the targeted mining areas of South Kivu and Ituri, and
b) improving the regional security and stability through cleaner chains, and improving governance of mineral chains at all levels.
The project started in December 2019.
The project is implemented in consortium with International Alert as lead with 4 other partners of the consortium - OGP, EurAC, IPIS and a partner to be determined in Ituri. Advocacy and Influencing in the framework of the project will take place at territorial, provincial, national, regional and global levels with government actors, embassies, civil society and targeted members of the private sector.
The Senior Advocacy Advisor is responsible for daily advocacy, communication and Influencing activities, communicating regularly with the CoP, the director of programmes and the project management team to coordinate the implementation of the project's advocacy/ communication and Influencing strategy and ensure that advocacy priorities and approaches are well identified in accordance with the project objectives and strategy.
