Associate, Data Use for Health

 

Base Location: Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual to drive forward the data use agenda to help develop, execute, and coordinate more effective programs to fight against diseases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Data Use Associate will help shape the data use strategy, operationalize, and provide technical input to a growing portfolio of data use across the infectious and non-infectious diseases programs to support the scale up of effective interventions for prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance, with the goals of sustainably reducing the number of infectious and non-communicable diseases related illnesses and deaths in DRC.

Project Overview

CHAI supports national and local governments in multiple countries across Africa including the DRC for the use of data, such as GRID3 data as a tool to improve primary healthcare outcomes by adopting them into PHC programs and across planning dimensions (e.g., health financing, health workforce, supply chain, service delivery) to define health catchment areas, identify underserved populations, optimize provision of health services at health facilities and in the communities, provide steady supply of commodities, allocate resources, and improve measurement of denominators and coverage.

Project Objectives

  • Raise awareness about the use of epidemiological and geospatial data in routine program planning and service delivery
  • Identify opportunities to test and use existing epidemiological and geospatial data to inform routine programmatic activities
  • Evaluate the impact of epidemiological and geospatial data use on primary health care outcomes

Document and disseminate results to contribute to an evidence base on the use of epidemiological and geospatial data in primary health care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a landscaping assessment to identify use cases for epidemiological and geospatial data use in PHC programs
  • Develop concept notes and work plans for project implementation
  • Work closely with MOH programs and partners to assist in operational planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluation of the use case
  • Provide strategic guidance on project implementation, provide regular updates on project progress and document, and disseminate project updates and results
  • Fulfil routine and ad hoc requests for reporting key performance indicators on epidemiological and geospatial data use, including data collection, aggregation, and analysis
  • Manage relationships and coordinate with MoH programs and other stakeholders to improve collaboration and achieve project objective,
  • Support capacity development and/or mentoring of professional staff on epidemiological and geospatial data applications
  • Disseminating findings through high-quality presentations, reports, and publications within CHAI and among government stakeholders
  • Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, social sciences, business administration or related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with increasing levels of responsibilities in a demanding public or private sector
  • Excellent fluent in French and English, both written and verbal
  • Practical experience in design, coordination and implementation of the monitoring and evaluation of projects
  • Practical experience in data analysis and designing systematic framework to improve the qualitative and quantitative evidence gathered by projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work on complex problems without extensive support and self-motivate,
  • Ability to react quickly to ad-hoc requests while managing an existing workload and meeting deadlines,
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, credibility, and dedication to CHAI’s mission
  • Ability and willingness to live and work in high-risk countries.

Advantages
