Org. Setting and Reporting
 
This position is located in the Engineering Section within the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). The Facilities Management Assistant will be based in Goma. The incumbent reports to the Head Operations Unit in the Engineering Section in Goma
 
Responsibilities
 
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
• Perform tasks related to construction works and prefabricated container installations in the field mission but including not limited laying out, framing and finishing new construction and repair structural metal and woodwork and equipment in establishment.
• Responsible for operating the heavy and light engineering equipment and machineries and carry out the maintenance of the runway and helipad, digging septic pit and similar earth moving works.
• Carry out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on all the installations; Perform surveys and ensure the provision of required material quantities and specifications.
• Monitor the tools/equipment and material inventory; Ensure the use of the materials in most productive manner.
• Perform measuring, marking, and arranging materials in accordance with national and local building codes.
• Liaise with Project Unit supervisor for expert advice on construction works, mason for concrete matters and other technicians, as necessary.
• Providing administrative assistance to Head of Unit regarding the ongoing projects in the Field Offices.
• Look after all minor engineering activities and provide feedback to supervisor about the work progress and shortcomings.
• Perform other functions as assigned by the Unit supervisor.

Education
 
High school diploma or equivalent.
 
 
Training in Facilities Management is desirable.

Solid computer skills and proficiency in word processing is required.
 
Work Experience
 
A minimum of three (03) years of practical experience, with an organizations or company, in construction works, assembling, of prefab containers and operating heavy machinery is required.

Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management, building management, administrative services is required.

Experience in UN peacekeeping or other field operations is desirable.
 
Languages
 
English and French are the working languages of the United Secretariat. Fluency in English and French, (both oral and written) is required.
 
Assessment
 
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise or competency-based interview or both.
 
Special Notice

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
