Org. Setting and Reporting

 

These positions are located in the Strategic Communication and Public Information (Radio Okapi) within the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), with duty station, Kinshasa. The incumbents report to the editor-in-chief of the newsroom, under the general supervision of the Chief Radio Okapi.

 

Responsibilities

 

Within delegated authority, the Public Information Assistants will be responsible for the following duties:


1. Produce and deliver radio and multimedia content timely, including news, reports and feature stories and adapt them to web articles formats; sets up and maintains archiving of audio and multimedia material;

2. Actively participate in the daily editorial meeting; follow planning of stories production and timely deliver stories assigned;

3. Present, and produce and translate radio content in at least one local language;

4. Present news bulletins and program timely and well structured, in French and local languages, according to planned shifts; produce run-downs and radio content ready to be aired and ensure news are up-to-date before aired;

5. Oversee and monitor news and content from other radios, websites and internal Radio Okapi content to produces periodic reports;

6. Upload news and feature stories, and other radio content, into adapted website formats;

7. Research, compile and present information for use in the production of content;

8. Assist the newsroom editors and colleagues in news and program cycles productions;

9. The work and tasks required are performed in the newsroom unless otherwise instructed; flexibility is required to work in shifts outside core working hours and shifts during the weekend.

10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

 

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

 

 

 

Work Experience

 

A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in public communication, international broadcasting or related area is required.

 

Languages

 

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For these positions, fluency (oral and written) in French is required. Knowledge of English is desirable. Fluency in one of the local languages.

 

Assessment

 

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

 

Special Notice

 

This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4.4 of the United Nations Staff Rules.
