In the middle of the Itombwe plateau in South Kivu, a unique landscape is revealed where the interests of different communities clash. Farmers, fishermen and hunters share this rich ecosystem, but the increasingly limited biodiversity has led to conflicts. Our partner organisation is interested in building bridges between communities, reconciling different interests and finding joint solutions for the preservation of this valuable habitat and for the prospects of young people.

Our partner organisation Association Paysanne pour le développement intégré au Sud-Kivu (APDIK) frees people from their emotional burden and integrates them into their community. Taking into account the traditional values and mechanisms of the conflict communities, APDIK wants to update the methods of conflict transformation. It is looking for a psychologist in trauma healing to strengthen the competences of its staff and to pave new ways: to accompany traumatised people and to make a transformation of conflicts between communities a reality. If you have a passion for conflict transformation with young people and are interested in shaping peace at first hand, then become part of the creative APDIK team.

You will be based in Bukavu, with regular trips to Minembwe-Centre, APDIK's headquarters: in the middle and high plateaus of the Mitumba Mountains, in the territories of Uvira, Fizi and Mwenga, in the province of South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the border area with Burundi and Tanzania.

Job Scope

You will make a valuable contribution to APDIK's ability to expand its psychosocial counselling services by supporting colleagues with creative approaches and methods and strengthening their skills.

In detail, your tasks include:

• Stocktaking of training needs
• Conception and realisation of workshops
• Participation in the development of creative approaches and methods
• Needs-based professional and peer counselling
• Support for conflict-sensitive, gender-orientated project management
• Development of an international network

Profile

• A relevant degree (at least a Bachelor's degree)
• Expertise in psychosocial support and mediation
• Project management skills in development policy
• Good written and spoken French skills
• Strong analytical and systemic thinking skills
• Enjoy promoting colleagues and learning from each other
• Sensitivity and interest in the conflict context
• Openness and motivation for social integration into the culture of Congo and flexibility for regular business trips in the region

The placement is within the framework of the "Civil Peace Service" (CPS) programme on the basis of the German Development Aid Workers Act.

Citizenship of a Member State of the European Union or Switzerland is required.
