About Altech Group
Altech Group is the DRC market leader in the distribution of world-class clean energy
products and services. Our mission is to expand clean energy access to DRC’s off- and poorgrid
households and organizations. Our vision is to eliminate energy poverty in DRC by 2030.
We use a three-pronged approach to clean energy access expansion, consisting of: 1) living
energy poverty, 2) finding the right clean energy technologies, and 3) developing
appropriate payment solutions. We use a pay-as-you-go (PayGo) distribution model, in
which customers acquire products after depositing a down-payment and then pay the rest in
small daily/weekly/monthly instalments. Altech Group has sold over 170,000 clean energy
products, impacted over 850,000 people, and created over 300 jobs. Our 2022 goal is to sell
1 million products, impact 5 million people, and create 2,000 jobs.

The Opportunity
At Altech Group, one of our core beliefs is that in order to achieve universal energy access in
DRC, and elsewhere in Africa, local people have to own the energy poverty problem and be
at the forefront of efforts aimed at ending it. Guided by this, our mantra is: Solutions – of, by,
and for the Congolese, which also means putting the communities we serve first and above
everything else. As our Zonal Sales & Marketing Manager, you will embody this belief.
To achieve our 2022 goal, you will you will design and implement scalable sales and
marketing strategies, building on success and growth to date. You will use our unique data
sets of sales patterns, customer demographics, and customer buying behavior to create andrefine a portfolio of data-driven strategic sales and marketing initiatives tailored for this large,
underserved energy access market. You will contribute significantly to Altech Group’s
strategic planning process at the national level. The lessons you learn in Western Zone will be
applied to new markets as we scale across DRC and beyond.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for the implementation and success of our sales and
marketing strategy. You and your team will recruit, train, manage, and retain a highly
motivated team of full-time sales and marketing managers and hundreds of commission
based sales agents that will ultimately deliver on our vision of eradicating energy poverty in
DRC by 2030.
What We Are Looking For
A Sales Guru: A person with a minimum of 5 years of increasingly successful and responsible
sales leadership experience.
A Leader: Someone who has led a successful sales team before, a person who is able to
convert a raw talent into a highly skilled sales person. She/he should be able to lead by
example.
A Trainer, Coach, and Mentor: A person who will turn individuals into great team players that
will achieve great sales results and be able to convert raw talents into great sales personnel.
An Entrepreneur: Someone with an entrepreneurial mindset, someone who is at ease with
number analysis, loves to convert sales into figures, someone who has had successful sales
career in his/her previous company.
An Action Oriented Person: A problem solver and enjoys working hard. Demonstrates energy
& drive for things seen as challenging.
A Trilingual Person: Excellent communicator in Lingala and French. Proficiency in Kikongo
and/or English is a big plus.
Responsibilities
Acquire new customers and increase repeat sales for existing customer.
Continuously refine and iterate on our national sales strategy that aims to
reach millions of customers in need of clean energy products by 2022, both by
acquiring new customers and increasing repeat sales to existing customers. Test, validate, and refine Altech Group’s strategic sales and marketing initiatives
based on analysis of our unique data set and field-based insights, in order to
amplify our sales model to drive new customer acquisition.
Collaborate with other departments to create an ambitious and highly efficient
sales/distribution and delivery strategy to enable rapid growth and
outstanding, convenient after-sales service.
Continuously contribute to customer repayment improvement.
Collaborate with other departments in the development of a commercial
strategy that optimizes customer lifetime value (CLV) through increasing new
sales, improving loan performance, and growing active customers and repeat
sales.
Use our unique data set as well as insights derived from the field to refine and
iterate on our customer retention strategy, in order to improve payment
velocity, repayment rates and repeat sales.
Develop, own and advance relationships with key stakeholders
Create and own relationships, and negotiate key contracts with key
stakeholders within the sales process, especially with distribution partners,
mobile money providers, content providers etc.
Identify and assess additional sales channels to expand sales coverage across
the Western Zone including distributors, corporations and NGOs.
Provide leadership to the teams that drives sales and builds the Altech Group brand.
Live and communicate Altech Group’s mission of expanding clean energy
access to off- and poor-grid customers, thus contributing towards our vision of
eradicating energy poverty in DRC by 2030.
Uphold and help continually build the Altech Group culture which always
embraces Altech Group’s vision and mission and always puts the customer first
and above everything else.
Build upon, support, and provide exceptional leadership to the existing sales
and marketing teams including sales and marketing managers and hundreds
of sales agents, including testing and setting compensation, targets, and
incentive structures Oversee the recruitment, training and ongoing management of sales and
marketing teams.
Support team development by performing regular reviews and trainings,
retaining high performing team members, and finding creative ways to boost
low performing sales team members.
Build Altech Group’s reputation, visibility and Top of Mind Awareness with press,
newsletters and thought leadership.
Required Skills & Experience
5 or more years working in a senior role within a progressive sales and/or financial
services environment with strong, quantifiable results.
Significant experience servicing urban and/or rural customers in DRC.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in Lingala and French.
Proven experience and a passion for motivating and leading large teams to deliver on
ambitious goals within a commercial business environment.
Ability to draw the right insights from data to create and nimbly adjust strategy, make
difficult decisions that often require tradeoffs, balanced with a bias to action.
Experience and passion for working in DRC.
Highly Desired Skills & Experience
Experience managing a successful sales and/or marketing team, preferably in the
consumer products industry.
Experience building a large, results-driven team.
Proficiency in Lingala, Kikongo, French and English.
