Summary:

Save the Children is seeking a Nutrition and WASH/Purpose Two Lead for an anticipated five-year USAID-funded Resilience Food Security Activity (RFSA) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The RFSA will seek to sustainably improve food and nutrition security and resilience among poor and chronically vulnerable households and communities in selected regions. The estimated implementation timeframe for the RFSA is 2023 - 2028. Hiring is contingent upon successful award of the project and USAID approval of the candidate.

The proposed program will be an integrated, multi-sectoral food and nutrition security intervention. The Purpose Two Lead will provide oversight and guidance in the design and implementation of activity interventions and demonstrate experience effectively leading nutrition, WASH, and social behavior change (SBC) programming intended to improve food, nutrition and economic security (FNES).

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties):

  • Develop and implement SBC–related qualitative and quantitative formative research together with the MEAL team to inform SBC strategy development.
  • Lead SBC strategy development and provide technical guidance and coordination for participatory design and implementation, particularly at household and community levels (includes interpersonal communication, mass and social media- community mobilization and advocacy; capacity strengthening; monitoring and learning) in close collaboration with SBC colleagues from SCUS.
  • Provide technical guidance for the development, adaptation, field testing, and effective use of state-of-the-art nutrition, WASH and SBC approaches, materials, tools and job aids.
  • Train and mentor staff on the implementation of strategy, approaches, tools, and job aids.
  • Support the development of effective nutrition, WASH and SBC M&E indicators and evaluation designs.
  • Lead material and activity field testing design and implementation in collaboration with SCUS nutrition, WASH and SBC colleagues.
  • Support capacity strengthening and strategies to improve community-led advocacy and community mobilization in support of addressing the nutrition and WASH needs of the poorest and most underserved.
  • Foster and maintain effective, professional relationships with a broad range of community, public, and private sector counterparts.
  • Identify and supervise technical deliverables of consultants, design agencies and mass media production houses.
  • Ensure timely and quality completion of all relevant program deliverables and reporting.
  • Document nutrition, WASH and SBC programmatic approaches, successes and challenges to support programmatic and sector-wide learning.
  • Generate timely information regarding strategy effectiveness, feeding this information into collaborating, learning and adapting (CLA) processes and leading necessary adjustments.

Required Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in a relevant academic area—e.g., nutrition, public health, or a related social science discipline—plus five years of relevant experience with increasing technical responsibility leading to senior level expertise are required; OR an undergraduate degree in a related field and eight years of relevant work experience with increasing technical responsibility leading to senior level expertise.
  • Experience leading nutrition, WASH, and social behavior change programming intended to improve FNES.
  • Experience working in DRC highly preferred.
  • Experience leading the development and implementation of evidence-based, multi-sectoral nutrition and WASH programs.
  • In-depth understanding of food and nutrition security.
  • Ability to lead the collection, analysis, and utilization of information from a broad range of sources.
  • Strong understanding of a range of social and behavior change (SBC) theories and approaches that address changes in social norms, structures, and individual behaviors.
  • Proficiency in capacity strengthening, including experience with effective adult education approaches.
  • Ability to network and engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Fluency in French is required, and professional proficiency in English and Swahili is preferred.
  • Experience with USAID and U.S. Government regulations and program administration, management, and reporting procedures and systems are preferred.
