Director of the Conflict Sensitivity Hub

This is an exciting opportunity to join Alert’s largest country programme – the Democratic Republic of Congo team – as the Director of the Conflict Sensitivity (CS) Hub is responsible for the overall strategic implementation of the project; is responsible for high level influencing and strategic engagement with donors and key humanitarian, development and peace actors/platforms to push for conflict sensitivity to be integrated transversally into HDP policy in DRC.

This is a senior management position within Alert’s DRC programme and reports directly to the DRC Director of Programmes (DOP).

The main goal of the project is to contribute to improved aid delivery and effectiveness in DRC through increasingly conflict and gender sensitive HDP programming.

  • Objective 1: Provide access to continued tailored conflict and gender sensitivity resources, capacity building, technical assistance and learning for Humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding (HDP) actors
  • Objective 2: Increase the credibility, capacities, and sustainability of the CSH

The post holder will play an important role in onboarding new donors and consortium partners to the Hub and will represent the DRC CS Hub in national and international conversations on conflict sensitivity, liaising very closely with Alert’s Conflict Hub at global level. He/she is the strategic lead of the project and oversees coordination across the consortium, with multiple donors and will onboard consortium members.

He/she will be required to travel from time to time to Goma, Bukavu, Bunia, Kalemie and Kananga.

Essential qualifications include: extensive experience of implementing large and complex projects in consortia and with several international and local partners; 10 years of professional experience in strategic programme management and advocacy; specifically strategic decision making of complex programmes on issues in DRC or in a similar context.

For this role, the skills, qualifications and experience listed below are important, but we believe that to be great in this job you are likely, first and foremost, to have a talent for working effectively in complex, politically charged, unstable environments, and across different cultures. You will be professionally credible based on your extensive experience and deep knowledge of the issues at stake and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of actors working on conflict management, social cohesion and development programmes.

Furthermore, we are looking for someone well organized, results and detail-oriented with a proven experience in peacebuilding/ conflict transformation and familiarity with gender- and conflict-sensitive approaches. In addition, experience of developing donor reports and nurturing constructive relationships with international and local partners (governmental and non-governmental) is essential as well as an excellent working knowledge (spoken and written) of both French and English.
