Role & Responsibilities

Manage the Medair-led consortium, consisting of three INGO partners, including Medair. Overall responsibility for coordination, implementation, reporting, and operational oversight.

Project Overview

Emergency nutrition, health, WASH and food security projects targeting displaced, conflict- and drought-affected vulnerable populations in central and southern D.R. Congo.

Workplace & Working conditions

Field based position in Goma, D.R. Congo, with trips to remote field sites where living and working conditions will likely be more basic.

Starting Date / Initial Contract Details

September 2023. Full time, 12 months.

Key Activity Areas

Partner Coordination and Communication

  • Primary contact for consortium partners during the life of the grant period.
  • Responsible for handling reporting of partners and Medair, ensuring overall quality of the consortium is being upheld.
  • Flag issues to Country Director and consortium steering committee as required.
  • Enable information sharing and partner communication in a spirit of collaboration.
  • Build and foster healthy working relationships with consortium partner staff.

Grant Management

  • Monitor progress of consortium towards achieving project targets, flagging any concerns to the consortium steering committee.
  • Monitor consortium expenditure and forecasting, liaising with partners on under/over spend as required.
  • Compile and synthesise reports from all consortium partners to produce timely and accurate donor reporting.

Financial Management

  • Maintain link between partner finance departments and Medair finance.
  • Ensure smooth, timely cash flow to consortium partners, ensuring partners understand cash request requirements.
  • Ensure compliance requirements maintained within consortium, including audit notification and coordination.

Quality Assurance

  • Flag issues where quality might not be maintained, and seek solutions for challenging issues.
  • Support partners with advice in challenging liaison with authorities and help share lessons learned.
  • Form working groups where lessons learned can be shared and experience learned from between partners.

Donor Relations and Representation

  • Act as primary contact for BHA for consortium-related matters.
  • Flag concerns from donor to County Director/ Head of Country Programmes/ Programme Funding Manager.
  • Maintain Medair’s reputation throughout the grant.
  • Help form follow on projects and partnerships.

Risk Management

  • Ensure consortium partners are fully aware of agreed incident reporting requirements.
  • Follow-up on any reports received and flag to County Director and Head of Country Programmes for donor reporting as required.
  • Ensure that consortium partners have appropriate mechanisms in place for proper support, oversight and monitoring of activities.

Team Life

  • Reflect the values of Medair with team members, local staff, beneficiaries, and external contacts.
  • Fully contribute to the life of your team.

Qualifications

  • University degree. Post-graduate degree in the humanitarian sector desirable.
  • Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written).

Experience

  • At least 2 years’ experience in grant oversight/management.
  • Experience of working with BHA funded grants.
  • Problem solving ability. Excellent communicator
  • Thorough donor knowledge. Financial literacy. Writing and synthesising skills.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels.
  • Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner.
  • Able to cope with basic living conditions in the field and during field trips.
  • Advanced leadership and management skills.
  • Committed to consultative and servant leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritising and delegating as required.
  • Able to build trust and enforce procedures.
  • Dynamic, mature. Self-motivated, energetic, hard-working, servant-hearted.
  • Passionate about humanitarian partnerships.
  • Team-player with good inter-personal skills.
  • Positive communicator and ability to handle conflict.

All new deploying international staff to Medair’s country programmes (and other roles which require field travel) should be fully vaccinated with a WHO-approved COVID vaccine, supported with a COVID vaccination certificate as evidence.
